General tips to improve your search results

After you enter your search keyword(s) or phrase into the search field, select the appropriate search
parameter from the drop-down menu within the section you are searching and click Search, Venali
searches only for matches within the specified section. By default, all words within the search field are
searched independently and results displayed for all words. Phrases need to be surrounded by quotation
marks. Search results are displayed and results are listed by rank (relevancy).

Listed below are tips to expand or to limit the focus of your search to help you improve your search results.

Expand Search What to do
Look for words with same prefix (wild card search)

Add an asterisk to the end of the keyword.

For example, enter key* in the search field to find key, keying, keyhole, keyboard, etc.

Search for all forms of a word including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs Add two(2) asterisks to the end of the keyword.

For example, enter attach** in the search field to find attach, attached, attaching, and attachment.
Separate multiple keywords by "or" Add "or" (parentheses not needed) between keywords to find all instances of each word or all words. Using "or" between keywords usually generates better search results for each word as relevancy scores are higher.

For example, enter send or receive in the search field to find all files that contain send or receive or both.
Limit Search What to do
Separate multiple keywords by "and" Add "and" (parentheses not needed) between keywords to find all instances of both words.

For example, enter send and receive in the search field to find all files that contain both send and receive.
Search using the keyword "near" Adding the word "near" (parentheses not needed) between keywords display files ranked in order of keyword proximity. The closer together the words are, the higher the rank.

For example, entering fax near confirmation will rank higher than fax and confirmation when searching for fax delivery confirmation.
Refine your search with keywords "and not" Adding "and not" (parentheses not needed) between keywords will exclude text that follows from your search.

For example, to find all instances of surfing but not the Net enter surfing and not the Net.
Phrases What to do
Use quotation marks to search for a phrase Words surrounded by quotation marks will be searched literally as a complete phrase.

For example, enter "accessing account information" to find files containing exact phrase.
Natural Language/Free text searches Free text searches can be entered in the form of proper questions, or a string of words and phrases. Nouns and noun phrases are qualified and quantified for relevancy.

For example, if you enter "How do I send a fax?" (no parentheses) results will include all files containing all words, regular search language features are disabled and keywords such as "and," "or," and "near" are interpreted as normal words.
